Katie-Jane Whitlock is an incredibly talented, Oxfordshire-based bridal and theatrical hair stylist, who has recently been short-listed for a regional award at the 2015 Wedding Industry Awards. She had the idea of setting up a vintage themed photoshoot to showcase her hair styling skills, and to get some images for her portfolio. We found a suitable location (a barn in the beautiful village of Blewbury) and enlisted the help of Kinvara, our model for the day, and Katie Bolton, a local make-up artist specialising in bridal/wedding services.

I decided I wanted to get a moody, editorial feel to the images, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to test out the Elinchrom Rotalux Deep Octa (a recent addition to my gear bag) with my portable studio lights. The power of the strobes allowed me to overpower the ambient light both indoors and out, with the Deep Octa giving a nice soft, directional light, which worked well for the theme we had in mind.  I like this thing a lot!

You can check out some more of Katie-Jane’s work on her website, or on her Facebook page, and likewise you can find more information about Katie’s make-up services on her website or her Facebook page.
